In a commentary piece that somehow made the Film News section of THR.com, writer Thomas K. Arnold dismisses the debut DVD performance of WWE’s “12 Rounds.”
Though “12 Rounds” topped the week’s video charts, the writer was not impressed by the film’s performance–“movies that otherwise would have been also-rans are shooting up the charts, simply because there’s no high-profile competition to contend with,” Arnold said of the weak summer DVD offerings.
The story notes that less than 150,000 copies of the disc were moved in its first week and that the fifth season DVD of “Entourage” managed to net 87% of the WWE Films movie’s sales for a second place finish. THR makes an incorrect assertion, however, in running down the “12 Rounds” performance by noting the “much higher list price” of “Entourage.” While it is true that the HBO comedy DVD’s list price was higher ($39.99), most major retailers are selling the set for less than $20, which would put it in the same price range as “Rounds.”
Despite the unfavorable commentary from THR, a leading industry trading journal, WWE will undoubtedly be touting the chart victory for Cena’s “12 Rounds.”
