Yesterday, shockwaves ran through the wrestling world as reports broke that Batista, the scheduled winner of the WWE Championship cage match with Randy Orton, was set to undergo surgery for a torn biceps.
According to PWInsider, WWE officials and Batista fans can breathe a half-hearted sigh of relief. While Batista is indeed injured, the ailment is not as significant as believed Sunday evening. WWE officials reportedly “expected the worst” last night and kept the cage match short to protect their main-event talent.
The latest word is that Batista only suffered a torn tendon in his biceps. While he still is scheduled to undergo reparative surgery, he will not miss as much ring time as would have been required with a full biceps muscle tear.
At press time, it is unclear how much active ring time Batista will miss as he recovers. He suffered the injury three weeks ago due to general “wear and tear,” so the hope is that he will not have to remain inactive for very long.
