Lady Gaga, Sam Smith Reach Top 15 on US iTunes Sales Chart After Oscars

On the heels of last night’s Academy Awards ceremony, Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens To You” and Sam Smith’s “Writing’s On The Wall” have made substantial iTunes sales chart gains.

As of 9:45AM ET — just under ten hours after the conclusion of the broadcast — Gaga’s Oscar-nominated song is up to #13 on the all-genre US sales chart. Smith’s Oscar-winning “Writing’s” is up to #14.

In addition to the exposure they received in conjunction with the actual awards race, both songs were performed during the broadcast.

The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” which was also nominated and performed, is up to #33. Considering the song had a full, multi-format radio run and has already sold 2.5 million copies — several multiples more than the other two — its sales gain is arguably more impressive.

Following Dave Grohl’s rendition of the song in conjunction with the In Memoriam segment, The Beatles’ “Blackbird” is up to #170 on the chart. An additional version is sitting at #463.
