Echosmith’s “Bright” is Scoring Well with Pop Radio Listeners

Echosmith’s “Bright” is only just beginning to gain traction at pop radio, but the impression it has already made on audiences is of the immensely positive variety.

According to Mediabase’s latest national callout report, “Bright” currently claims the pop format’s most favorable audience reaction.

The follow-up to the band’s breakthrough “Cool Kids” possesses a “Net Positive” score of 59.6. No song fares better against that metric.

Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” which comes closest, holds a “Net Positive” score of 54.1.

“Bright” also holds pop radio’s lowest negative score (12.4) and fourth-highest positive one (71.9). Its only less than stellar quality score comes in conjunction with the “Favorite” metric, but its mark of 21.3 still falls on the positive side of the median (#13 of the 29 “current” pop songs being actively measured).

Because “Bright” is new to the pop format–and only familiar to 64% of listeners polled for the research–its glowing marks might not hold up in the long run.

The strong early response is, nonetheless, very encouraging.

It is also very comparatively strong. Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance,” The Weeknd’s “Earned it,” Tove Lo’s “Talking Body,” and Chris Brown & Tyga’s “Ayo,” which also possess familiarity levels in the 60-70% range, boast respective “Net Positive” scores of 50.4, 41.0, 33.9 and 22.4.

“Bright” appears at #32 on Mediabase’s rolling pop radio airplay chart and #22 on the rolling hot adult contemporary chart. Relevant Hot AC callout data was not available at press time.
