Ratings: FOX’s “Backstrom” Falls 26% in Week Two

The return of ABC’s competitive offering “Scandal,” the reduction of its lead-in support and the loss of first week curiosity buzz resulted in a significant ratings decline for FOX’s “Backstrom.”

The second episode of FOX’s new series drew a mere 1.4 adults 18-49 rating with 5.32 million viewers. Thursday’s airing trailed the premiere by 26% in the demo and 33% in total viewership.

Likely victimized by the return of “Scandal,” “Backstrom” will encounter an even more difficult battle next week. NBC’s flagship drama “The Blacklist” will enter the timeslot as part of the network’s effort to ignite its Thursdays.

— FOX led into “Backstrom” with a deflated “American Idol” (2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 9.37 million viewers). Its numbers were down by 21% and 12%, respectively, from those delivered last week.
