Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” Hits #2 at Pop, Will Soon Hit #1

As of Tuesday, there is only one song separating Charli XCX’s breakthrough solo release “Boom Clap” from the top position at pop radio.

Thanks to a spin count of 15,486 between August 19 and 25, “Boom Clap” climbs to #2 on the latest edition of Mediabase’s rolling airplay chart. MAGIC!’s former pop leader “Rude,” which held the #2 spot for two weeks, slips to #3.

Charli XCX’s track now trails Sam Smith’s #1 “Stay With Me” by a mere 660 spins. With “Boom Clap” gaining airplay at a rate of nearly 1000 spins per week and Smith’s tune losing it by the same amount, it now appears certain that Charli XCX will get to claim her first solo pop radio number one by the end of this week.

“Boom Clap” garnered 99.61 million audience impressions during the measured seven day period, which is also pop radio’s second best total.

A multi-format hit, Charli XCX’s song is now #14 at hot adult contemporary radio and #23 at rhythmic.
