CM Punk on RAW Fan Incident: “I’m Glad Nobody Was Hurt”

Both CM Punk and the fan he struck at Monday’s WWE RAW were victims of circumstance, and in a WWE.com statement, the wrestler apologizes for the incident.

“I think the whole situation sucks,” Punk told WWE.com. “It’s an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded.”

With the wrestler unprotected by security, various fans touched and shoved Punk during the segment. At one point, it appeared one fan got pushed into a frustrated Punk, who reacted with a backhand shot and then another punch.

“Somebody said, ‘let’s push him down the stairs,’” Punk explained. “I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punched…Then I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologize. I’m really just glad nobody was hurt.”

The fan who was struck did not reveal serious injuries as a result of the incident, although he would later confirm some pain in his knees.
