Dos Santos Tops Mir, Cain Velasquez Makes Statement; UFC 146 Results

To the surprise of very few, UFC’s all-heavyweight concept paid enormous dividends. The UFC 146: Heavyweights card featured an impressive array of dominant performances and quick finishes, resulting in one of the most exciting mixed martial arts fight lineups in recent memory.

It all built towards the UFC Heavyweight Championship main event between Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir. After stuffing an early takedown attempt, dos proved too difficult for Mir, peppering the UFC veteran with strikes until he eventually scored a stoppage in the second round.

The show also featured the return of Cain Velasquez, who was indeed on a mission after his quick loss to Junior dos Santos at the first FOX show. Velasquez absolutely annihilated Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, relying on vicious ground-and-pound that prompted the exit of a scary amount of blood. Velasquez won the fight in the first round and looks ready for a rematch with dos.
