Junior dos Santos Knocks Out Cain Velasquez; Wins UFC Championship

Cain Velasquez is no longer undefeated.

The reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion entered Saturday’s FOX special with the belt, but after just a minute and four seconds, that was no longer the case. Junior dos Santos used his striking advantage to score a 1:04 TKO victory over Cain, becoming UFC’s top dog in the process.

Dos Santos dropped Velasquez with an overhand right to the temple/ear region, and he followed up with punches on the ground. All Cain could do was cover up, and after a while, referee John McCarthy had seen enough and called a stop to the fight.

After the fight, a teary-eyed, victorious dos Santos admitted he was scared to fight the very tough Velasquez ahead of the bout. Talk about confronting your fears.

The next stop for Dos Santos will be the winner of Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem, who gets the next crack at the title.
