UFC Books Anthony Johnson vs. Charlie Brenneman, Siver vs. Stout

UFC 137: St. Pierre vs. Diaz, which looks to be the most stacked card remaining this year, just added an intriguing lightweight match to its lineup.

MMAJunkie reported that Dennis Siver vs. Sam Stout is under serious consideration for the show, while Heavy’s Jeremy Botter reported the contracts as “signed.”

Though a fight with Stout suggests Siver might not have been as “on the cusp” of a title shot as many assumed, it still potentially represents an explosive contest at lightweight. Stout, while not viewed as a top contender, is a dangerous UFC veteran coming off a scary, “knockout of the night” win over Yves Edwards.

The card also features Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz, BJ Penn vs. Carlos Condit, Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo, Roy Nelson vs. Mirko Cro Cop and George Roop vs. Hatsu Hioki.

— Elsewhere, UFC confirmed that a fight between Anthony Johnson and Charlie Brenneman will take place this October, although the specific date was not announced. UFC 136, UFC 137 or a cable card would all be options.

Johnson and Brenneman have an interesting connection–the recent UFC on Versus 4 show was originally to have featured Anthony Johnson vs. Nate Marquardt in the main-event. Johnson’s forced withdrawal brought Rick Story into the mix, and Marquardt’s suspension and UFC release thrust Brenneman into the contest. Brenneman did what not even the highly-decorated Johny Hendricks can do in outwrestling Story for a decision victory.

Johnson used his wrestling and size advantage to defeat Dan Hardy in his most recent bout. Prior to that, Josh Koshcheck outwrestled Johnson before locking up a rear naked choke for the win.
