Update: Billy Gilman’s “The Voice” rendition of “When We Were Young” continued rising as Wednesday progressed.
By 2:30PM ET, it was up to #16 on the US iTunes single sales chart.
Gilman, who had success as a country artist in his tween years, performed the Adele song as his “Blind Audition.” He received raves from the coaches, and ultimately chose Team Adam.

Featured on Tuesday night’s “The Voice,” Billy Gilman’s Blind Audition rendition of “When We Were Young” generated considerable enthusiasm from the coaches.
Based on its quick ascent up the iTunes chart, it also immensely resonated with viewers.
As of 3:20AM ET — just a few hours after the conclusion of the broadcast — Gilman’s take on the Adele ballad is up to #32 on the US iTunes sales chart.
iTunes purchases obviously do not count for votes (or vote bonuses) during the blind audition process. The success such a number has on the chart is thus a reflection of America’s enthusiasm.
Gilman, who selected Team Adam, enjoyed his first taste of success as a tween. Back in 2000, he scored a modest country and adult contemporary hit with “One Voice.” The album of the same name was certified double platinum just eighteen months after its release.
Two other Gilman albums — “Dare To Dream” and “Classic Christmas” — are gold in the United States.
As of press time, Gilman’s “When We Were Young” is the only performance in the Top 100 on iTunes.
