Ratings: 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards Viewership Falls Slightly From Last Year

The 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony drew fewer viewers than the 2016 edition.

The BET Hip-Hop Awards endured modest year-over-year declines in adults 18-49 and overall viewership.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, the 2017 ceremony drew a 0.77 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.49 million overall viewers. A simulcast on MTV2 added 0.08 in the demo and 0.15 million in overall viewership.

Last year’s show drew a 0.78 rating and 1.64 million viewers on BET and a 0.10 rating and 0.18 million on MTV2.

They may not constitute good news, but the drops were ultimately fairly modest. The 2017 show was down by only 3% in adults 18-49 and 10% in overall viewership.

— With the BET and MTV2 telecasts combined, the show ranked as Tuesday’s #2 cable original in adults 18-49. Only “American Horror Story: Cult” fared better in the key demo.

— The awards ceremony led into “Tales,” which drew a 0.51 rating and 1.04 million viewers on BET.
