Based on preliminary data, Tuesday’s “The Voice” was down from Monday night’s twelfth season premiere in adults 18-49 and total viewership.
It still dominated its timeslot in both columns*.
According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Tuesday’s hour-long episode drew a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 11.28 million total viewers.
The numbers trail the 3.1 adults 18-49 rating and 13.03 million total viewers drawn by Monday’s premiere.
They are also below the numbers posted by the first Tuesday episodes of the previous two seasons (3.4, 12.29 million in season 11 | 3.0, 12.29 million in season 10).
Granted, the comparisons are not apples-to-apples. Unlike this Tuesday’s episode, the other three referenced episodes were two hours in length. Since “The Voice” tends to gain viewers in its second hour, this week’s installment was at a disadvantage.
On the other hand, this Tuesday’s episode faced comparatively less competition. Monday’s season premiere faced ABC’s hit “The Bachelor” in its first hour, while the previous two Tuesday premieres faced competition from new episodes of CBS’ widely viewed dramas (“NCIS” and “Bull” in season 11, “NCIS” and “NCIS: NOLA” in season 10). CBS did not air an original “NCIS” this week.
Note: Preliminary data does not properly measure the presidential address, which aired live on both coasts (beginning at 9PM ET/6PM PT). As such, it is not yet clear how “The Voice” ranked for the whole of Tuesday night.
