Ratings: AMC’s “The Walking Dead” Drops Against Oscars, Still Leads Cable

This year’s Academy Awards ceremony may have delivered underwhelming numbers in comparison to usual Oscars standards, but it was still a massive television draw.

Facing that mammoth competition, Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” endured modest week-to-week losses in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, the episode averaged a 4.95 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 10.42 million viewers. The numbers trail the 5.28 rating and 11.08 million viewer mark drawn last week.

“The Walking Dead” has had mixed results against the Oscars in recent years. Last year’s show endured a week-to-week drop against the Oscars, but the relevant 2015 edition actually enjoyed a sizable gain over the previous episode. The 2014 Oscar Night episode was down versus the previous week’s broadcast.

Despite the declines, Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” easily ranked as cable’s #1 Sunday show in both columns. It will also repeat as television’s #1 scripted series in adults 18-49 this week.

— “TWD” led into AMC’s “Talking Dead” post-game show. This week’s edition posted a 1.74 adults 18-49 rating and 3.94 million in viewership. Last week’s “Talking Dead” drew a 1.82 and 4.05 million.

“Talking Dead” was cable’s #2 Sunday show in adults 18-49.
