No, the “Girl Meets World” finale did not set a series high in live+same-day viewership. The initial audience was actually well below that routinely drawn during the show’s first two seasons.
It did, however, represent an improvement over the show’s most recent performances.
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, “Girl Meets Goodbye” drew 1.64 million total viewers. Up from the 1.36 million drawn by the penultimate episode, the figure was the show’s best since the October 14 installment.
The episode also enjoyed episode-to-episode gains in many key youth and young adult demographics.
Of note is the fact that the finale aired at 6PM ET. While the previous two evening episodes actually drew larger audiences than the late-2016 primetime episodes, there is certainly an extent to which the evening slot may have bottlenecked audience size — and neutered the “event” feel of a series finale.
Disney Channel’s Friday evening lineup also included “Liv And Maddie: Cali Style” (1.23 million this week vs. 1.05 million last week) and “Bizaardvark” (1.16 million this week vs. 0.95 million last week).
