On the heels of a solid time period premiere, “Superstore” has earned a full second season.
NBC has ordered an additional nine episodes, resulting in a full second season total of twenty two.
The expanded order is not remotely surprising.
Leading out of NBC’s August 19 Olympics coverage, a special preview episode drew solid ratings this summer. “Superstore” then fared well in its time period premiere Thursday, drawing a 1.5 adults live+same-day rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. It marked a 50% improvement over NBC’s 2015-16 average in the 8PM timeslot and provided solid lead-in support for new comedy “The Good Place.”
“We’re very proud of ‘Superstore’ and we were so happy to see fantastic viewing levels with the preview during the Olympics as well as last night’s ratings in its new Thursday anchor time period,” said NBC’s Jennifer Salke. “This is a show our audience loves and, paired with ‘The Good Place,’ which our audience also loves, we think we have a sensational new comedy block to build this season.”
