Update: As of 4AM ET Saturday, Meghan Trainor’s “NO” is #5 on the US iTunes single sales chart.
Meghan Trainor’s “NO,” which arrived late Friday morning, has predictably been resonating with iTunes buyers.
As of 6:50PM ET, the single was up to #7 on the all-genre US single sales chart. It will presumably continue its ascent in the coming hours.
The lead single from Trainor’s forthcoming sophomore album “Thank You” (due May 13, 2016), “NO” blends Trainor’s signature attitude and conversational lyricism with late-90s pop/R&B production elements. It accomplishes the desired task of showcasing new sonic tendencies (and abilities) without abandoning the personality that helped debut album “Title” spur four multi-platinum singles and a Grammy for Best New Artist.
Produced by Ricky Reed, “NO” has been receiving hourly opening day airplay across a myriad of pop stations. The airplay should help it debut on the Top 40 of this week’s Mediabase pop chart despite the fact that said chart will only account for its first two days of availability.
