While the industry will wait until adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers emerge before rendering an opinion, the overnight household ratings reveal a year-to-year loss for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast.
Metered market data confirms that Sunday’s ceremony, which spanned 8-11PM ET and received direct lead-in support from FOX’s post-football coverage (which discussed a marquee, major market game between the Eagles and Cowboys), drew a 8.7 overnight household rating.
Last year’s show, which aired on Monday, August 25, posted a 10.9 overnight household rating. It ultimately posted a 4.2 adults 18-49 rating with 15.6 million total viewers.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and “Veep” won for Outstanding Drama and Comedy, respectively.
