Grammys: Beck Wins Album of the Year; Kanye Mocks VMAs Moment

Beck’s “Morning Phase,” not Beyonce’s “Beyonce” or Sam Smith’s “In the Lonely Hour,” won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

And in a nod to his now infamous MTV Video Music Awards run-in, Kanye West walked towards the stage and teased snatching the microphone away from the man behind Grammy-winning “Morning Phase.”

Ultimately, West stopped, played the situation for laughs, and allowed Beck to celebrate his upset victory for Album of the Year.

Earlier in the night, “Morning Phase” won for Best Rock Album and Best Engineered, Non-Classical Album.

Beyonce thus exits the 57th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony without a win in one of the “Big Four” categories. Sam Smith already won for Best New Artist and could still win for Record and Song of the Year, but he will not have swept the four.

Ed Sheeran’s “x” and Pharrell’s “G I R L” were also in the AOTY race.
