The “Boom Clap” era ends this week.
Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” which is already the #1 song on Billboard’s all-encompassing Hot 100, is now the most-played song at pop radio.
Per Mediabase, “All About That Bass” received 16,321 spins during the seven day period between September 10 and September 17. Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap,” which has spent three consecutive weeks at #1 on Mediabase’s official chart, received 16,133 during that same seven day time period.
The Charli XCX song did, however, command a larger audience within that window. “Boom Clap” received 106.39 million audience impressions between September 10 and 17, while “Bass” garnered 100.38 million.
Currently in the #1 position on Mediabase’s rolling chart, “Bass” will formally commence its pop radio reign when the official airplay chart goes to print Sunday evening.
Other top five pop songs between September 10 and 17 include Maroon 5’s “Maps” (#3, 13,978), Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” (#4, 13,706) and Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” (#5, 13,459). The rapidly rising “Shake” could leapfrog the declining “Maps” by as early as tomorrow.
— A multi-format hit, “Bass” is also #5 at hot adult contemporary radio, #16 at rhythmic and #22 at adult contemporary.
