Hot 100: MAGIC! Holds Off Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”

An explosive riser on the airplay, sales and streaming charts, Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” is quickly conquering the all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100.

Rapid and impressive, the ascent is not yet enough to induce a changing of the guard.

MAGIC!’s “Rude” holds off “Bass” to claim a sixth week atop the Hot 100 chart. Trainor’s track, which is now #1 on the Streaming Songs chart, #1 on Digital Songs and #24 on Radio Songs, reaches a new high of #2.

That rise to #2 might officially put the kibosh on Sam Smith’s aspirations of reaching the top with “Stay with Me.” His song, which no longer has momentum, slips to #3 this week. With “Bass” still rising and Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” due to fly into the chart next week, the feeling was that this week would be Smith’s only potential opportunity to reach the chart’s apex.

Fueled by release of its music video, Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” surges to #4. It represents one of three Grande tracks in the Top 10 – she also appears on #7 “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” and #10 “Bang Bang (with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj).”

Iggy Azalea, whose “Fancy (featuring Charli XCX)” slips to #5 this week, also appears on three Top 10 tracks. In addition to the “Fancy” and the aforementioned “Problem,” she is also represented by #8 “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora).”

Other top ten members: Nico and Vinz’ “Am I Wrong” (#6) and Sia’s “Chandelier” (#9).
