How viewers will respond now that MTV’s “Catfish” finally provided a happy ending remains to be seen, but Tuesday’s special episode, in which potential perpetrator Derek proved to be everything he said he was, continued the show’s recovery from a recent series low.
Followed by a live after-show that drew a healthy 0.8 rating and 1.52 million viewers, the “Lauren and Derek” edition of “Catfish” posted a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating with 2.37 million viewers. Marking a second straight week of increased ratings, the numbers rank as the best for an original cable telecast Tuesday.
Only two Adult Swim re-airings of “Family Guy” performed better.
— USA, meanwhile, entered the Tuesday race with its new pairing of “Covert Affairs” and “Suits.” While “Affairs” stumbled with just a 0.6 rating and 2.39 million viewers at 9PM, “Suits” premiered season three to a solid 1.1 rating and 2.93 million viewers in its new time slow.
Below its peak levels and proof that any potential it showed of being a legitimate phenomenon has departed, “Suits” nonetheless deserves credit for building on its season two finale numbers on a new night against special competition from the MLB All-Star Game.
