Based on early sales reports, Carly Rae Jepsen might be the latest addition to the “singles artists” club, which undoubtedly calls Flo Rida its spokesperson.
After setting the music world on fire with her “Call Me Maybe,” which ranks as the biggest song of 2012 by some metrics and one of the top three songs of the year by virtually any measure, Jepsen is nonetheless struggling to move units of new studio album “Kiss.”
Following “Kiss”‘ opening day of sales, Hits Daily Double is now predicting first-week sales in the 35-40,000 range, a total which hardly speaks to the impact her song made on the pop music world.
To her credit, the singer’s album scenario was not ideal. “Call Me Maybe” was originally released as part of the “Curiosity” EP and therefore had less impact on “Kiss” than a “lead single” typically would. Her follow-up single “This Kiss” has been a slower-than-expected starter thus far.
Albums from P!nk, Kanye West’s GOOD, The Killers and Grizzly Bear will all debut ahead of Carly Rae’s “Kiss.”
