Shortly following Jerry Lawler’s sudden collapse on Monday’s RAW, WWE.com issued an update on the legendary announcer’s status.
“Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night’s broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal. We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family,” read the official WWE statement.
Lawler collapsed at the booth during the Team Friendship vs. Primetime Players matchup, at which point those in attendance were seen turning their attention to the commentary area. Lawler was quickly escorted to the backstage area, where he received CPR and was then ultimately transported to a nearby hospital.
A few segments later, an emotional Michael Cole explained why Lawler’s presence was suddenly absent from the commentary. Shortly after that, he confirmed to the WWE audience that Lawler was breathing on his own, before announcing he, too, would cease commentary out of respect for Lawler. The final two segments were broadcast without live commentary.
Headline Planet sends its best wishes to Lawler on a successful recovery.
