“American Idol” Sets Carole King Theme for Next Week, Guest Performers Confirmed

Following a turn at songs from the 21st century that resulted in one of the weaker “American Idol” finals nights of the season, the competition will take more of a retro approach for Top 6 week.

FOX confirmed late Thursday that the remaining finalists will perform songs from the discography of Carole King, whose biggest hits fell between the 1970s and 1990s. She achieved massive success with her 1971 album “Tapestry.”

Those performances take place next Wednesday. On Thursday, “Idol” will eliminate another contestant while welcoming guest performances from season nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox and pop hitmaker Bruno Mars.

  1. Brilliant!! Finally a reason to tune into AI this season. Hope they’ll dig deep in King’s discography…there lots of gems to be found. Some of Your Lovin’ for example, or I Can’t Make it Alone…or No Easy Way Down. This could be amazing!
