“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” host Jimmy Fallon has consistently received rave reviews for his impressions of musicians, and in a segment on his show Wednesday night, he made “American Idol” contestant Casey Abrams his latest target.
Reiterating the happenings on last week’s memorable “Idol” results show, in which an emotional Casey Abrams was “saved” from elimination by the judges, Fallon joked that Abrams now realizes that he needs to cash on his fame before his star runs out. Abrams, thus, has been lending his celebrity to brands that need endorsement.
Cue footage of Fallon delivering his Abrams impression, singing jingles for products like erectile dysfunction pills and the Shake Weight to the tunes of the “Idol” contestant’s “I Don’t Need No Doctor,” “With a Little Help from My Friends” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
The in-studio crowd did not seem too enthusiastic about the “Idol” recap and Casey Abrams footage, but it did find humor in the musical endorsements segments.
As for the impression itself, it was far more of an over-the-top, comedic take on Casey Abrams–it was not intended as a spot-on impression (as is the case with his acclaimed version of Neil Young).
