“Unknown” Leads Weekend Box Office, “Gnomeo & Juliet” Could Overtake “Number Four”

With three-quarters of the holiday weekend box office data now available, “Unknown” remains in first place.

The Liam Neeson-starrer earned an estimated $21.8 million through Sunday, which positions it for a top finish in its debut weekend.

New release “I Am Number Four,” which many initially forecast to win the weekend, remains a slow-starter, having earned just $19.5 million through Sunday. Most now believe it will be overtaken by “Gnomeo & Juliet,” which is in close contention at $19.4 million.

“Just Go With It” held up fairly well in week two, and its $18.2 million three-day total has it leading “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son” ($17 million).
