“American Idol” waved goodbye to yet another finalist Wednesday, bringing the remaining contestant count down to nine.
Tuesday’s performance show largely showcased the male performers. Of the top five performers Tuesday night, as ranked by Headline Planet, four were males. And, the sole female ranked in the top five has become such a frontrunner that an elimination would have been shocking even if she had forgotten all of the words to her song Tuesday night.
But did the elimination go as predicted? Did “Idol” eliminate one of the forgettable females? Or, was it one of the males who was sent packing?
It was a female. Didi Benami, who struggled greatly with “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted,” received the lowest vote total and was sentenced to elimination. The judges opted not to save her after a rendition of “Rhiannon,” cementing her plane ticket home and out of the competition.
Tim Urban, who has become this season’s answer to Sanjaya based on the way the judges have stopped taking him seriously, was once again in the bottom two. Katie Stevens repeated in the bottom three.
The remaining nine contestants return to the stage next week to perform the Lennon/McCartney songbook.
