Backstage WWE Reaction to Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston Incident on RAW

When Randy Orton loudly chastised Kofi Kingston at the conclusion of the triple threat match on RAW, it was clear that “The Viper” was doing more than simply portraying a character–he was legitimately upset with Kingston.

And, based on how everything lined up, it was pretty obvious that Kingston messed up the timing of the the finish, forcing Orton to rush the delivery of his RKO manuever.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, while some might have considered Orton’s reaction–bringing attention to the error on live television–to be unprofessional, the feeling backstage is that Orton is respected and tenured enough for the action not to warrant any second guessing. In fact, the word going around is that no one backstage was even talking about the incident that night.

  1. Orton’s got anger issues. Add his unprofessional berating of Kofi Kingston to the incident with Ken Kennedy and his constant bouts with WWE fans; one of which happened just recently in which he assaulted a 15 year old boy and verbally abused the boy’s mother. The guy has way too big of an ego and thinks he can get away with anything and WWE should be ashamed of themselves for not addressing his treatment towards Kofi Kingston.

  2. Orton is a dick! I hate him. I seen him live and he ripped a kids poster. The only way he wins is with Legacy. He SUCKS! Period.

  3. He has a right to point it out. It helps another wrestler learn with their job. Orton is a great guy outta the ring and well worth meeting. So him pointing it out was not bad. If he didn’t and it happened again someone could get hurt the next time so hes trying to prevent it. And Cena helped with the Kennedy firing.

  4. No harm no foul,
If timing is everything in wrestling and it has been shown to be, Randy Orton did nothing wrong…if there is any way to prevent injury from these entertainers then every precaution should be taken…We don’t do the job that they do…and from all indictations it can be very brutal…for them. We want to be entertained, they are just making a living doing that very thing. Try strapping on their boots for a minute and see for yourself if you wouldn’t want to take care that nobody gets hurt.

  5. I think the point is that he could have handled it backstage instead of in the ring. Yes, I would say it was unprofessional. But like the article says, no one backstage was even talking about it. So does it really matter?

  6. i thiink randy orton was doing nothing wrong it was kofi kingston who messed up orton did his rko stance and kofi kingston stood up too late.

  7. I agree…if Kofi Kingston keeps stuffing up then someone could really get hurt…if his timing is off then again someone including Kofi could get hurt.

Randy is a professional in the wrestling business and he is the greatest wrestler in the world…he expects the same from his work colleagues…and if Kofi doesn’t play his part to the latter then a professional Like Randy Orton should chastise him until he does get it right. Hopefully Kofi will learn from this mistake and not make it again.

  8. ok i understand that kofi messed up but even when a superstar makes a mistake you dont lose your temper, you remain professional and finish the match in character. The point of this business is to entertain and to give the illusion that this is real but when you show your ass in front of a live audience that credibility is ruined for the fan .. Obviously its something that should have been talked out backstage , but it is Orton after all

  9. i dont care for orton he got in the business i knew he didnt do alot of indy shows he acts like wrestlers dont make mistakes maybe at the level where koffe is he cant make those mistakes but none the less he acted totally unprofessional and that stuff with kennedy well i think bobby lashley said it better than anyone else could we didnt get in the business not to get hurt

  10. u jerk banged orton like u’all pretty much know anout this industry. if you’re not the roster, shut up!

the backstage didnt complaint, that means what orton did, there must be a reason.

dont act like u know orton very well.

  11. What happened is that KOfi did not give Orton as much time as he wanted to slither around and play up the rko. Thing is that if Orton hadn’t pointed it out no one would have known any better. HOwever this was the number one contender match and Kofi didn’t let Orton build up his character and finisher.

  12. Back to what Keenan said about being in character that is orton’s character that’s who he is supposed to be. When i watched it i thought he was actually doing that in character cuz of their rivalry

  13. Orton ’tis a douchebag (which is a bag of douches). He rushed the timing with Piper and Kingston back in the Garden a few weeks back, so don’t act like he’s immune. His conduct would’ve gotten anybody else fired by now–and actually has.
