“Gossip Girl” Threesome Sparks Ratings Bump, “Heroes” Hits Low

The much-hyped threesome story arc on “Gossip Girl” produced a 20% ratings spike this week, although the boost was not nearly enough to bring The CW’s Monday soap back to 2008 levels.

With 2.3 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49, the show rose over last week’s poor showing but was still within its disappointing season three range–there was no truly special interest in the threesome controversy. Lead-in “One Tree Hill” matched “Girl”‘s adults 18-49 number but did a total of 2.7 million viewers.

“CSI: Miami” also saw some growth for the “CSI” trilogy crossover storyline, garnering 13.8 million viewers and a 4.0 adults 18-49. Elsewhere on CBS, comedies “How I Met Your Mother” (9 million, 3.5 demo rating), “Accidentally on Purpose” (8.2 million, 3.0) and “Two and a Half Men” (14.1 million, 4.4) were in their usual territories; breakout “The Big Bang Theory” led the lineup yet fell the most with 12.4 million viewers and a 4.5 rating.

With FOX’s coverage of the World Series over, “House” (12.8 million, 5.1) and “Lie to Me” (7.5 million, 3.0) made strong gains with new episodes.

ABC aired “Dancing with the Stars” (17.7 million, 3.5) and “Castle” (10.7 million, 2.5).

Over at NBC, “Heroes” hit a new series low with a 2.3 demo rating and 5.3 million viewers, lame duck series “Trauma” was far from notable with 5.4 million viewers and a 1.8 rating and “The Jay Leno Show” was at its bottom with 4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.
