Several of ABC’s new series have performed well out of the gate, and the network continued handing out the rewards.
After granting full season pickups to “Modern Family,” “Cougar Town” and “The Middle” last week, ABC did the same for “FlashForward” Monday.
The serialized drama has been a solid ratings performer in its three airings, and the first wave of DVR playback data added positive color to the numbers. While the ratings have steadily declined since the premiere, the drop has been neither devastating nor unexpected for a new drama and apparently was not enough to shake ABC’s confidence in the series.
Viewed as a replacement for “Lost” when the Emmy-winning drama leaves the air this season, “FlashForward” has been the top new series in 18-34 this season.
Update: Variety reports that “FlashForward” has received an order for 25 season one episodes (as opposed to the standard 22).
Delighted with the news!
