“Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself” stayed on pace after a strong Friday bow to win an otherwise quiet weekend at the box office.
The comedy force’s latest grossed an estimated $24 million and thus had no problem topping fellow newcomer “9” for the top spot. Debuting in second place, “9” grossed $10.9 million.
And if the lukewarm reception for “9” were not disappointing enough, premiering films “Sorority Row” and “Whiteout” faced an even greater struggle. The two films, which placed sixth and seventh, respectively, earned $5.3 million and $5.1 million.
On the holdover front, the big news story was “Inglourious Basterds” reaching the $100 million mark. The critically-acclaimed Tarantino film landed in third with $6.5 million as it hit a four-week cumulative total of $104.3 million.
