Assuming Frank Ocean’s eagerly anticipated “Boys Don’t Cry” album does not arrive this week, “Suicide Squad: The Album” is on track to claim #1 on Top Album Sales and the Billboard 200.
Based on initial sales data, Hits Daily Double projects the soundtrack to sell 110-115,000 pure US copies during the August 5-11 tracking week. The inclusion of TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) will result in a consumption total in excess of 125,000.
Barring the release of the aforementioned Frank Ocean album, both figures will be more than enough for #1 on the two key album charts. The next-best performer in pure sales will likely be either Skillet’s new “Unleashed” (~50-55,000) or the new “NOW 59” (~45-50,000).
Projections for holdover releases were not available at press time, but there is no indication that any of the top consumption performers — Drake’s “Views,” for instance — can come within striking distance of the 125,000 unit figure. “Views” only generated 80,000 units last week.
