Not since 2012 has a solo female track reached #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
While it remains to be seen if that drought will come to an end this summer, two solo female efforts are now positioned within the Top 5.
Carrie Underwood’s “Little Toy Guns,” the higher-charting of the two, re-enters the Top 5 at #3. Up four places from last week’s position (and two from its previous peak), “Little Toy Guns” received 39.069 million weekly audience impressions (+4.444 million).
Underwood’s “Blown Away,” interestingly, was the last solo female release to top the Billboard chart.
Kelsea Ballerini’s “Love Me Like You Mean It” also reaches the Top 5 this week. The recipient of 38.436 million audience impressions (+4.623 million), the singer-songwriter’s debut single rises three places to a new peak of #5.
Both songs are also inside the Top 5 on the Mediabase country radio singles chart. Ballerini’s tune is #3 on the listing, while Underwood’s “Little Toy Guns” holds #4.
Florida Georgia Line’s “Sippin’ on Fire” and Kenny Chesney’s “Wild Child (with Grace Potter)” hold the top two respective positions on both charts. Blake Shelton’s “Sangria” is #4 on Billboard, while A Thousand Horses’ “Smoke” holds #5 on Mediabase.
