“The Big Bang Theory” Returns to Mondays this September

Not interested in opening the 2014-15 season without its top-rated show, CBS announced Wednesday that “The Big Bang Theory” will begin the new season in its old Monday at 8PM timeslot.

There, “Big Bang” will lead not into a new comedy but into sophomore “Mom.” That tandem will occupy the Monday at 8PM hour until the end of CBS’ Thursday Night Football campaign in late October, when “The Big Bang Theory” shifts back to Thursdays.

At that point, “2 Broke Girls” will return to the Monday at 8PM slot.

The “Big Bang” shift accompanies a broader shift to the Monday format. For the first time in years, CBS will only air one hour of comedies on Mondays. Despite softness this past season in the 9PM hour, it will continue to program two hours of comedies on Thursdays.
