HBO’s “Hello Ladies” did not receive a second season order, but one of its breakout stars could still have a regular presence on TV next season.
Christine Woods, who received raves opposite Stephen Merchant in the HBO comedy, has booked the female lead in the NBC comedy pilot “Two to Go.”
Penned by Bryan Shukoff & Kevin Chesley and executive produced by Jason Bateman, the single cam “Two to Go” centers on Kurt and Laura (Woods), lifelong best friends who grapple with the challenges of dating while their friends attempt to prove they actually belong with each other.
Echo Kellum, who previously appeared on “Ben & Kate” and “Sean Saves the World,” was recently cast as one of the friends.
— In other pilot casting news, Deadline reported Tuesday that Kal Penn, famous for his work in “Harold & Kumar” and on “House,” has booked a key role in CBS’ “Battle Creek” pilot.
The project, which comes from “House'”s David Shore and “Breaking Bad'”s Vince Gilligan, centers on a local detective and a newly arrived FBI agent who, despite their conflicting views, must unite to clean up the streets of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Penn will play another local detective who, too, is skeptical of the FBI agent.
