Not so fast, Eminem and Rihanna.
With excitement over One Direction’s “Diana” dying down, the aforementioned duo’s “The Monster” was working its way back into the lead position on iTunes’ Single Sales chart.
Then One Direction released another song.
Title track “Midnight Memories,” the second of three promo tracks due to release this week, exploded into the top position after its release Wednesday. According to Digital Sales Data, its sales pace exceeds that of Eminem’s “The Monster” (and One Direction’s own “Diana”) by a multiple of about five-to-one.
With “Diana” still performing competitively (#3), One Direction now has four tracks in the iTunes Top Ten. In addition to the aforementioned chart-topper and second runner-up, the group also has another version of “Midnight Memories” (a pre-release from the standard edition of the album) and single “Story of My Life” in the illustrious upper echelon of the chart.
At press time, those songs were ninth and tenth, respectively.
“Midnight Memories” releases November 25. According to iTunes, a final pre-release song will hit the digital shelves on November 22.
