After its slight downtick last week, “Scandal,” surely boosted by last week’s climax in which Mellie revealed President Grant’s affair to the American public, returned to its red-hot form by delivering series high demo and viewership numbers Thursday.
The breakout ABC drama dominated the 10PM hour with a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating and 8.89 million viewers.
In setting its own personal high marks, “Scandal” also topped long-time “ABC” flagship “Grey’s Anatomy” by a comfortable margin. “Grey’s” posted a 2.9 with 8.60 million viewers.
(Update: “Grey’s” improved to a 3.1 rating with 8.97 million viewers in the final daily broadcast ratings. “Scandal” held steady at a 3.2, cementing its lead over the veteran ABC soap)
Following its lackluster, abbreviated inaugural season–and more lukewarm ratings in the early part of its current season–“Scandal” has exploded for ABC, delivering vastly-improved ratings and significantly greater buzz. It, at least for this week, reigns as the network’s number one drama series and number two overall program.
