WWE.com confirmed Tuesday that CM Punk underwent a successful arthroscopic surgery to trim a cartilage tear in his knee.
“CM Punk underwent knee surgery today to remove a piece of torn meniscus that had locked up his knee,” said Andrews’ colleague, WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann. “The surgery, performed by Dr. James Andrews, went smoothly and CM Punk is expected to make a full recovery.”
The WWE website linked the injury to his storyline altercation with Ryback at Monday’s RAW, although sources say it dates back for a few weeks.
Punk is expected to recovery very quickly, so it is not yet certain he will miss the TLC pay-per-view. A determination will likely come in advance of Monday’s RAW.
But insofar as he will definitely be good to go for Royal Rumble, at which he was scheduled to defend his WWE Championship against The Rock, it does not appear any angle will be written to strip his title before or at the TLC event.
