Muse’s “The 2nd Law” Album Sales Pacing Below “Resistance”

Muse continues to raise its profile as one of the world’s premiere modern rock bands, but its album sales performance is not improving so rapidly.

Based on opening day sales data, Hits Daily Double is forecasting an opening week tally of 110-120,000 for new release “The 2nd Law.” If that estimate holds, the album will begin its run slightly behind that of 2009’s “Resistance,” which moved about 128,000 units in its first week.

The estimate suggests “2nd Law” will debut in second on next week’s Billboard 200 chart. Mumford & Sons’ “Babel,” which moved 600,000 copies this past week, will hold onto its number one spot next week.

Other sales estimates include 55-60,000 for Miguel’s “Kaleidoscope,” 50-55,000 for Three Days Grace’s “Transit of Venus” and Cher Lloyd’s US version of “Sticks & Stones” (30-35,000).
