NBC’s “The Sing Off” finale suffered a notable ratings decline from last Monday’s performance, but the real disappointment was the sneak preview of “Perfect Couples,” which barely registered at 10PM.
Down from last week’s 3.3 adults 18-49 rating to a 2.7 with 8.51 million viewers, “The Sing Off” still easily won its two-hour timeslot. More importantly, it provided enough lead-in support far too ample to justify “Perfect Couples” ‘ 1.4 with 3.80 million viewers.
Starting in January, “Couples” will move in between “Community” and “The Office” at 8:30PM as part of NBC’s three-hour comedy block. Based on its Monday performance with a stronger lead-in, there is no reason to believe “Couples” will be a success, although by virtue of having its own strong fanbase, “The Office” will essentially be a “reset button” for NBC at 9PM and give the network a hope of success from 9PM-11PM.
With most broadcast in re-runs Monday, the only new airings were an episode of “Skating with the Stars” (0.9 rating, 4.78 million viewers) that was likely inflated by a pre-emption for the Vikings-Bears game in both key markets, and FOX’s “Million Dollar Money Drop” (1.9, 5.34 million).
