Yahoo! Sports reported this weekend that former PRIDE Middleweight and Welterweight Champion Dan Henderson has left the UFC.
According to the report, UFC President Dana White confirmed that he and Henderson had been unable to come to terms on a contract renewal. Unable to secure Henderson for more fights in the Octagon, UFC let its “right of refusal” expire, allowing Henderson to shop offers from other promotions.
“We have a good relationship with Henderson, and there are no hard feelings,” said White. “He had a figure he believed he was worth, and we had our own figure, and we weren’t able to get together.”
Most are under the impression that Strikeforce will make a bid for “Hollywood,” but nothing was confirmed at press time.
Henderson, who is coming off a knockout victory over Michael Bisping, had hoped to receive a rematch against Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. UFC instead gave the next shot to Vitor Belfort, with the expectation that it would pit Henderson against Nate Marquardt to determine the next title challenger.
