Ratings: FOX’s “Scream Queens” Disappoints, Loses Audience Across 2 Hours (Updated)

Final Ratings Update: The two-hour premiere of FOX’s “Scream Queens” drew a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 4.038 million viewers.

The broadcast lost viewers from start to finish.

The initial 8-8:30PM half hour drew a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating with 4.597 million total viewers. The show fell to a 1.7 with 4.032 million viewers in the 8:30-9PM half hour and then posted a 1.6 with 3.814 million viewers in the 9-9:30PM portion. The final half hour (9:30-10PM) drew a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating with 3.710 million viewers.

The overall “Scream Queens” performance reflects the show’s inability to draw a big audience. The progressive viewership loss calls into question the show’s stickiness. Collectively, the statistics paint a disappointing picture of FOX’s new horror-comedy.

Fast National Update: FOX’s “Scream Queens” got off to a disappointing start.

Per fast national data, Tuesday’s premiere posted a soft 1.7 adults 18-49 rating with 4.21 million total viewers from 8-9PM. It then slipped to a 1.6 with 3.81 million viewers in the 9-10PM hour.

A half-hour breakdown provides further illustration of the viewership bleed. After opening with a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating and 4.45 million viewers in the 8-8:30PM slot, “Scream Queens” followed with a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating and 3.96 million from 8:30-9, a 1.6 with 3.86 million from 9-9:30, and a 1.6 with 3.75 million from 9:30-10.
=======================

Disappointing at the onset, the two-hour premiere of FOX’s “Scream Queens” scared away viewers as it progressed.

Per metered market data, Tuesday’s two-hour premiere drew a mere 2.9 overnight household rating. In terms of households, it was a steady fourth among major networks from 8-10PM.

Because the show was expected to skew markedly in the direction of young adult viewers, it is possible the adults 18-49 rating (due by 11:15AM ET) will not be quite as dismal. The low household rating effectively assures, however, that the adults 18-49 rating will not be impressive.

Particularly troubling about the performance was the significant level of tune-out from start-to-finish. After opening with a 3.5 household rating in the 8-8:30PM slot, “Scream Queens” slipped to a 3.0 in the 8:30-9PM window, a 2.7 in the 9-9:30PM slot, and a 2.5 for the final half hour.

That is a decidedly negative endorsement of the show’s quality.
