FOX Renews “Fringe,” NBC Bringing Back “Community”

FOX officially renewed its “Fringe” Thursday series this weekend, bringing the sci-fi drama back for a third season.

Though “Fringe” has struggled numerically in the ratings this year, its passable performance in its tough Thursday night timeslot assured FOX that value remains in the series. It will thus be back for a third round next fall.

The past few days have produced a number of key series renewals. NBC confirmed that it will bring back “The Office,” “30 Rock” and “Community” for next year. With “Parks and Recreation” already due back for a third season, the news means that NBC has granted all of its Thursday comedies another year.

The CW, meanwhile, renewed veteran “Smallville,” which now airs on Fridays, for a tenth season.
