A departure point for presumed frontrunners like Tamyra Gray, La Toya London, Chris Daughtry and James Durbin, “American Idol'”s Top 4 results show has earned a reputation for shock eliminations.
That reputation did not carry through into season thirteen. Jessica Meuse, widely expected to be dropped from the competition this week, was indeed sent packing.
Jena Irene, Caleb Johnson and Alex Preston, all of whom have been pegged as frontrunners throughout the season, successfully advanced to the Top 3. They will make their customary homecoming appearances before singing live on next week’s show.
Meuse, a constant lightning rod for criticism from the judges, received lukewarm marks for her takes on “Since U Been Gone” and “So What.” She did, however, receive praise for “You and I,” her final performance on Wednesday’s results show.
But when compared to the body of work possessed by the other three contestants, Meuse’s case for a trip to the Top 3 seemed light. America agreed, and it decided not to support her advancement in the competition.
