Microphone Issue Impacts Kristen Merlin’s “The Voice” Performance

“Anything can happen on live TV.” On Monday’s “The Voice” performance show, something unexpected absolutely did.

Roughly three-quarters of the way through her emotional rendition of Sugarland’s “Stay,” Kristen Merlin’s microphone disconnected. The final moments of the Team Shakira contestant’s performance were completely inaudible to those watching and listening at home.

Unfazed by the incident, Merlin continued to work her way through the song. She eventually received a replacement microphone to audibly belt out the song’s final note.

An undesirable turn of events for a singer who was preparing to bring the rousing performance to its conclusion, the incident nonetheless failed to leave a lasting black mark. In addition to praising her poise, all four judges gave Merlin’s performance a standing ovation.

The portion everyone did hear, meanwhile, drew strong marks from viewers and online critics.
