Randy Couture Seeks Dominance Over Mark Coleman; UFC 109 Results

Though slightly older, Randy Couture is universally viewed as more relevant than fellow storied heavyweight and fellow UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman. A recent UFC champion, Couture remains one of the most respected names in the sport.

Coleman, however, made a big impact with a decisive win over Stephan Bonnar, proving that he, too, should not be dismissed as “too old.”

The two went head-to-head at UFC 109: Relentless. Now at light heavyweight, who would demand that he not be dismissed as dated in this battle of Hall of Famers?

It was Randy Couture who emerged as the more dominant. With a much more technical striking approach, Couture picked the tentative, slower opponent apart on the feet before using his famous clinch to punish Coleman for the duration of round one. In round two, Couture took it right to Coleman, driving his opponent into the fence and then scoring a takedown.

Couture immediately dominated from mount, before taking Coleman’s back and putting the Hall of Famer to sleep with a rear naked choke.

Randy Couture defeated Mark Coleman via submission (rear naked choke) at 1:09 of Round Two.
