Final Ratings Update: For the first time in its run, “Empire” suffered sizable week-over-week losses in adults 18-49 and total viewership.
Those losses did not, however, remove its aura of dominance.
Tuesday’s “Empire” posted a 5.5 adults 18-49 rating with 13.742 million viewers; the numbers trail those of the season premiere (6.7, 16.184 million) by 18% and 15% respectively.
“Empire” was still television’s highest-rated and most-watched show. Its nearest competitor in the former was ABC’s “Modern Family” (3.0). The second-most-watched show was CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (10.075 million).
— FOX led into “Empire” with “Rosewood” (2.0, 6.236 million).

Fast National Update: Per fast national data, Wednesday’s “Empire” posted a 5.4 adults 18-49 rating with 13.68 million viewers.
Both numbers trail those of the premiere, which scored a 6.7 adults 18-49 rating with 16.18 million viewers according to final broadcast data.
“Empire” tends to receive a slight upward adjustment in the finals, but the adjustment will obviously not bridge the gap. This week’s episode suffered a notable week-to-week loss.
It nonetheless easily ranked as Wednesday’s most-watched and highest-rated broadcast program. Its closest competition in adults 18-49 came from ABC’s “Modern Family” (2.9). CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (9.89 million) was the next-most-watched program.
FOX led into “Empire” with “Rosewood” (1.9, 6.18 million).

A week-over-week ratings loss did not prevent FOX’s “Empire” from once again dominating its competition.
Per metered market data, Wednesday’s episode drew a 9.0 overnight household rating.
While the number trails the 10.4 achieved by last week’s season two premiere — and is the show’s lowest overnight household rating since the seventh first season episode (an 8.8 for the February 18 broadcast) — it easily ranks as Wednesday night’s strongest number.
In terms of overnight households, its closest competition came from ABC’s “Modern Family.” The comedy drew a 5.9 overnight household rating in the 9-9:30PM half hour.
The 9.0 overnight household foretells another strong performance in adults 18-49 and total viewership (due by 11:15AM ET). Last week’s episode 10.4 household rating came alongside a 6.7 adults 18-49 rating with 16.18 million viewers.
— FOX led into “Empire” with episode two of “Rosewood.” This week’s episode drew a 4.8 overnight household rating; last week’s series premiere posted a 5.9.
