Greta Gerwig Set To Reveal “How I Met Your Dad”

Multiple sources confirmed this week that Greta Gerwig has been cast as the lead in the upcoming CBS pilot “How I Met Your Dad.”

Best known for her various film roles, including one in the 2011 “Arthur” remake, Gerwig will play Sally, whose “love story in reverse” will be at the center of the planned “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off series.

According to the official casting description, Sally is “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year. A break-up is inevitable, but Sally will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family, who are often too willing to give ‘good’ advice that can backfire badly. Meanwhile, Sally must filter out the input and decide what’s best for her.”

TVLine, which recently released descriptions for all five regulars (and the narrator), identified Sally’s soon-to-be ex-husband as Gavin. Other characters include Juliet (“Sally’s sexy, flamboyant, energetic, party-girl BFF”), Danny (“Sally’s older gay brother, a Type A, overachieving lawyer with whom she shares little in common”), Todd (“Danny’s warm, outgoing husband and one of Sally’s closest friends from college”) and Frank (“The head of IT for Juliet’s fashion blog. He’s a hot nerd. He has genuine feelings for Sally, but it’s a one-sided flirtation. At least for the moment”).

Despite not featuring any major “How I Met Your Mother” characters, “Dad” is still being promoted as a spin-off to the veteran–and soon-to-conclude–CBS comedy. It comes from writer-producer Emily Spivey in addition to “Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
