Sales for Coldplay’s “Mylo Xyloto” will be a far cry from those of predecessor “Viva La Vida or Death and All his Friends,” and the band doesn’t seem nearly as hot as it did when “Viva La Vida” was playing everywhere, but the standout rockers will still have no problem topping the charts.
Based on early-week sales data, Hits Daily Double forecasts between 425-450,000 sales in the first week. Even if the final total moves higher, as has been the case for quite a few recent projections, it will not touch the more than 700,000 total moved by “Viva.”
Distantly-behind but still solid will be Kelly Clarkson, whose “Stronger” is set for 155-165,000. Though a shame that Clarkson’s lowest sales total to-date comes for what is irrefutably her best album to-date, given her declined profile and the relatively-slow reaction to lead single “Mr. Know It All,” this is as strong a debut as anyone realistically could have expected.
Michael Buble’s anticipated “Christmas” will land just above 100,000, but the album is expected to move plenty of units throughout the holiday season. Toby Keith’s “Clancy’s Tavern” will be good for 50-60,000, another example of the interesting phenomenon whereby established male country acts (George Strait, Trace Adkins and even Rodney Atkins) are not selling anywhere near as well as rising stars (Eric Church, Luke Bryan).
